Important Note: A bonus of €300 will be payable to homes receiving 3 measures and a further bonus of €100 will be payable to homes receiving 4 measures under the Better Energy Homes scheme where all works are completed to scheme requirements. Bonuses will be included at grant payment stage. A Building Energy Rating (BER) cannot be counted towards 3rd or 4th measures to qualify for bonuses.

It is a requirement of the Better Energy Homes scheme that all grant applicants have a BER assessment on their home after grant aided works have been completed. A published BER certificate is required for each Better Home Energy application and therefore it is advisable that homeowners apply for and undertake all planned grant aided works at the same time to minimise the costs associated with multiple BER assessments. Please note that grant payment may only be claimed once all measures associated with your application have been completed including your BER Assessment.

A homeowner is only eligible to BER funding once per home. This funding will be applied automatically to your grant application provided BER funding has never previously been paid for this property. You will be informed during the online grant application process if BER funding is available for your home.

Before you begin your application, please have the following information available to hand:
  • Your electricity Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN)
    This number is generally located at the top of your Electricity Supplier Bill and is 11 digits long. Please note that the address associated with this MPRN will be used for all correspondence, with all grant paperwork dispatched to this address.
  • E-mail address
    You will need this so that we can send you confirmation of your application and send you other important information and reminders over the lifetime of your grant. In the instance where perhaps you don’t have a personal e-mail address please ask a relative or trusted close friend for use of their e-mail address. It is very important that neither a Contractor nor an Assessor applies on your behalf, nor uses their e-mail, as this contravenes the terms and conditions of their registration. In certain instances SEAI allow companies (Better Energy Homes Partner) to apply on your behalf. Please note you must sign a consent form before such an application is made.
  • Dwelling details
    The year in which the home was built - must be prior to 2014.
  • Contractor Details
    If you have already selected an SEAI registered contractor then you will need to know their name and address.
